It's good to be shallow.
Just ask Nintendo. They spent decades making incredibly deep and complex games and the people shunned them.
Pfft said the apathetic market. Forget your polished softwarial craftsmanship. Hardware is the canvas, and you Nintendo, have made the canvas too small.
"Hardware?" Thought Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo's very own Willy Wonka San. "You shall have hardware." and thus was born the Wii.
Sure it's only marginally more powerful than the PS2. Sure it's a generation behind in almost every sense, but hey, it's not about what you see, it's about how you 'feel.'
And the world 'felt' the Wii in their tens of millions.
However, the fidelity of the Wii's motion sensing hardware was inherently flawed. Good enough to distinguish a backhand from a forehand perhaps but not good enough to accurately decapitate a police officer with a hunting knife.
So Wii Motion Plus was dreamt into the ether to correct this initial oversight and Wii Sports Resort (or Wii Sports 2) is the tech demo to showcase this new hardware.
Other reviews of the game range from ecclesiastically positive to apocalyptically negative and that's because reviewers are confused as to whether they are reviewing the hardware or the software.
Reviews can only offer scores or advice based on certain reference points. When the Wii was released the gaming joypad had barely changed in 30 years. A few more buttons maybe, an extra directional pad or two, a more ergonomic feel; but still the same lump of plastic which correlated button presses to intentions.
The software is shallow. Low score.
But the hardware means that gaming is now different. Motion Plus is here and it's good.
It could, in fact, probably simulate to a reasonable degree of accuracy a game in which you decapitate policemen with hunting knives.
Which is just about the biggest praise you could ever give anything.

Wii software might not be next-gen but the controls are...glitchy IR needs addressing. I'm growing to loathe 'recalibration,' though brutal, realistic, bloodily satisfying decapitations might make it all worth while.
yeah...recalibration is a menace. It ruins perfectly good evenings.
sports resort is complete n utter bollox
so is ur mum.
can you use this without the motion plus
